Notes to pg. 110

H.H. is distressing over the idea that if he does not arrive at camp early enough, Lolita may leisurely call home and discover that her mother is dead. Even though he is not sure that she hasn't already heard the news, he needs to keep his "fairy tale" plan together in his head. The battery dying in his car allows the story a thrill of suspense. His plans are ever evolving as he gets closer to his destination. His mind continually relapses and redesigns his plans, as nothing else can sway his attention or his train of thought. The following paragraphs will help reiterate the suspense H.H. endures while waiting to get a hold of Lolita.
After reaching the lodge, H.H. is barely able to keep his composure. ("The poor guy looked like his own ghost") He has Mcfate working for him though, considering Lolita's mother is in "critical condition."This may have helped cover for his uncomforting look. He can barely make out the details of being at the lodge with his mind and body waiting so attentively for his Lolita. All he notices are the basic facts of what is going on around him with his beating heart dimming the rest.
He remarks of the girl-children on the wall as if they are in a different class or species than Lolita herself.

I did these notes without looking at the books notes first, which was hard to do since I failed the first time and had to pick a new page. I tried not to look at the numbers on the side of the page as well, but it was hard not to notice that there would be a number next to the references of butterflies which I decided not to comment on since it seemed so common place. After I did look at the book's notes I hadn't realized that the boy that guided H.H. to the front desk was the boy that had previously had relations with Lolita. The prose puts him in there very subtly, which is rightfully so, since H.H. was having problems rendering the details of the setting. The page, which was picked at random, did turn out to be a highly suspenseful part of the story which made it easier to remark on it's awkward and somewhat humorous nature.
